
WATER PROJECT
NANDI
This is the Funding, Design and Build of Kakamega-Bungoma Bulk Water Supply and Sanitation Project to cater for over 2 million people in the Lake Victoria Basin, in Western Kenya.
The project employer is “Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency” (LVN) which is a Government of Kenya (GOK) agency. The Government of Kenya National Treasury is the obligor on all loans for this project.

About Nandi water

Project team is led the Main Contractor, China Railway Group Limited (CREC), a mega corporation group that offers a wide range of services including survey and design, construction and installation, industrial manufacturing, real estate development, resources, and mineral products. CREC is headquartered in Beijing China and has fully fledged operations in Kenya. The project designer is Gibb Africa Ltd, the engineering consultancy firm. GIBB is a leading project design firm with vast experience in design and supervision of construction works in Africa, and the Middle East. Ayedos BV are the designate arrangers, have undertaken the financial modelling.

Water supply component includes the construction of new intake works on River Nzoia upstream of Webuye Town, construction of 77,500m3/day water treatment works, construction of different reservoirs/tanks of various sizes (500 – 18,000m3) with a total capacity of 30,350m3, construction of approximately 316 Kms DN 150 – 900 treated water transmission mains.
Sanitation components include rehabilitation of approximately 15Km of the existing sewerage collection pipeline network, construction, and expansion of a new approximately 60km long DN 225 – 750 sewer trunk line for Kakamega and 52 Km long DN 200 – 750 for Bungoma, new wastewater treatment plant(s) of total ultimate capacity by at least 20,000m3/day for Kakamega, and 10,000m3/day for Bungoma County, construction of three (3) new decentralized wastewater treatment plants of various capacities (250 – 1,000m3/day) and public awareness as well as hygiene campaigns within the two (2) Counties.
